Our Journey and Core Values

Since its founding in 2010, AAVL has grown from a small local support group into a recognized organization dedicated to fostering recovery and healthy lifestyles. Our mission is to empower those affected by alcohol addiction through education, support, and community engagement, guided by our core values of Compassion, Empowerment, Community Support, Integrity, and Respect. We are committed to creating a supportive environment where individuals and families can find lasting freedom and well-being.

The Association pour l’Aide aux Victimes de l’Alcool (AAVL) is dedicated to uniting individuals and families affected by alcohol addiction and providing the resources, support, and education necessary for lasting recovery. Our mission is to empower members to overcome alcohol dependency, foster healthy lifestyles, and support families in navigating the challenges associated with addiction.

Through a combination of peer support, educational programs, and community engagement, AAVL creates a safe and supportive environment where individuals can reclaim control over their lives, build resilience, and thrive. Our approach recognizes that recovery is not just an individual journey—it is strengthened by community, solidarity, and shared experience.

Our Vision

We envision a society where alcohol addiction is met with understanding, effective support, and opportunities for lasting recovery. In our vision:

  • Individuals affected by alcohol are empowered to take control of their lives, overcome dependency, and achieve personal growth.

  • Families receive guidance, counseling, and resources to support their loved ones while maintaining their own well-being.

  • Communities foster awareness, prevention, and compassionate engagement with individuals affected by addiction.

  • Society at large embraces recovery and promotes lifestyles that are healthy, inclusive, and supportive.

Our ultimate goal is to reduce the impact of alcohol addiction, strengthen communities, and ensure that every individual has access to the tools needed for long-term recovery and well-being.

Our Values

AAVL is guided by a set of core values that underpin all our programs and initiatives:

  1. Empathy – Understanding the struggles of addiction and responding with compassion and support.

  2. Solidarity – Building networks of peer support, family engagement, and community collaboration.

  3. Empowerment – Helping individuals take control of their recovery journey and make positive life choices.

  4. Education – Providing knowledge on addiction prevention, treatment, and healthy living.

  5. Respect – Treating all individuals with dignity, recognizing that addiction does not define them.

  6. Commitment – Sustaining long-term engagement to support members through every stage of recovery.

These values guide our interactions with members, families, partners, and the wider community, ensuring that our work is ethical, inclusive, and impactful.

What We Do

AAVL delivers a wide range of programs and initiatives to support recovery, foster healthy lifestyles, and raise awareness:

  • Peer Support Groups
We organize support meetings where individuals can share experiences, challenges, and successes in a safe, confidential environment. Peer support provides encouragement, reduces isolation, and strengthens resilience.

  • Educational Programs
We offer workshops, seminars, and resources for individuals, families, and communities to understand the nature of alcohol addiction, prevention strategies, and tools for recovery.

  • Community Engagement
We promote awareness campaigns and events to educate the public, reduce stigma, and foster understanding of the challenges associated with alcohol addiction.

  • Family Support Services
Families affected by alcohol dependency can access counseling, guidance, and support networks to navigate stress, improve communication, and promote recovery within the household.

  • Rehabilitation and Lifestyle Programs
We provide activities and resources that encourage physical, mental, and emotional well-being, supporting members to maintain sobriety and adopt healthier habits.

  • Advocacy and Awareness
We work to influence public policies, healthcare initiatives, and community programs to improve access to addiction support services and foster a more informed, compassionate society.

Through these initiatives, AAVL empowers individuals and families to overcome challenges, reclaim control, and rebuild meaningful lives.

Our Impact

The impact of AAVL extends across individuals, families, and communities:

  • Individuals in recovery gain the tools, guidance, and peer support needed to maintain abstinence and achieve personal growth.

  • Families develop resilience, understanding, and strategies to support their loved ones while safeguarding their own well-being.

  • Communities benefit from increased awareness, prevention initiatives, and compassionate engagement with those affected by addiction.

  • Society gains from healthier lifestyles, reduced social costs of addiction, and stronger social cohesion.

Every program and initiative strengthens the cycle of recovery, support, and empowerment, ensuring lasting change for individuals and their families.
